Projects and Things

This new year was one of the first times thats I wasn't completely depressed! We all get that right?  Have to take down Christmas.  The snow doesn't seem as magical anymore.  There are not a lot of holidays to look forward to (besides Valentines Day, but let's face it, it usually doesn't turn out the way you planned).  It's cold.  Not quite spring cleaning time.  Days are still short.  The list I am sure can go on...mine includes not having any fun activities to take munchkin to, mainly because he is too young to enjoy any museums or fun little activities, but it is too cold for us to go on walks yet.  Blast the winter with a baby.

HOWEVER, this new year was quite a change for me.  It probably had to do with my parents being here for New Years eve and a few days before and after.  My mom of course helped me take down Christmas and put up...what would you call it?  not Winter.  not Spring.  Wing? Anyways, make the house clean, organized, and welcoming.  Oh it felt so good! My mom is great at decorating and organizing.  She loves it.  Which helps me because she always seems to end up organizing my pantry...hmmmm that is the best!

But I had an epiphany this January.  I love doing things.  Anything.  Organizing.  Cleaning.  Cooking.  Baking.  Playing.  Making.  You name it.  I just like to have something to do.  It feels good.  I feel productive.  It makes me happy.  Yes of course I definitely like my days of never getting out of my pajamas or sweats, and cuddling/playing with Anderson all day long at home, but I love my fare share of things to do.

Projects and Things completed:

#David and I made 2 sets of a Swedish game called Kubb for different family members this Christmas.  Some know it as the "Viking Game".  Oh it is SO much fun.  We played it with some friends of ours over the summer and I remembered it from Sweden so naturally we went onto Amazon and bought it.  But, David soon realized how simple it would be to make it with his table saw.  DONE.  It was so fun doing it together and giving it away.  I am in love with it and we will definitely be making more for my parents and whoever else wants to place an order ;-)

#Organizing my bedroom and closet! This doesn't need an explanation...but gosh it feels so nice and homey

#already completed reading two books:  "Standing for Something" by Gordon B Hinkley (so good), and "Covenant Motherhood" by Stephanie Sorensen (this is a must read for mothers! I absolutely loved it)

Projects and Things in the Making:

#David is building our bed! Yes this is mainly David doing the work, but I help out where I can.  Oh I am so excited.  He is one talented guy, as evidence from his TV stand, entryway bench, and guestroom shower corner table.  Pictures of the fabulous bed will be up when completed.

#Baby blocks for dear mr. Anders.  What else will we do with extra scraps of wood?  This got put on temporary hold because my sweet husband was slightly careless and cut his fingers on his table saw.  Don't worry they are still there, just look a little funny.  Could have been much worse, we are blessed.  But we are going to take a short intermission before we tackle the small delicate toys again.  But it definitely didn't stop him from going back down the next day to work on our bed  (you put bandages on, and a glove and he says he is good to go!  men...)

#and of course the continuous projects of:
*reading the Book of Mormon daily (thank you bofm365 on instagram!)
*making my house feel more and more like a home
*coming up with more games and activities for Anders and I to do...but I still just enjoy watching him learn about the world and what he can do! it's the best thing watching him figure something out on his own.
*attempting to become a better cook/baker
*finishing our basement (again, mainly David)
*finishing my current book "Rebekah" by Orson Scott Card (the last book for me to read in his collection of Women of Genesis)
*becoming better at my calling as a Cubscout leader (I am getting really excited about the new year and all the fun things we will be able to plan
*spending more time with my little family and coming up with creative past times for all three of us
preview of our family pics.  more to come.  I am in love with them
Yup, I feel like 2014 is going to be an incredible year.  Here's to foregoing the January slump! hopefully, but i won't promise you anything
