I have officially become a birthday party mom. It took 3 years. But I did it. This was the first party we have thrown for a child and I certainly went all out. I say "I" because David didn't approve of the party. Well he didn't approve of the party expenses, even though most of it was crafts made by yours truly. Oh well, whatcha gonna do with a husband who isn't a party man? You're going to balance him out and be the party woman, thats what you will do. He did help a lot during the party, and he made the awesome bean bag toss so i'll give him that.
Anyways. Anderson is obsessed with space. Obsessed. He knows all his planets. (Venus is his favorite) He knows they orbit the sun. He knows which one is hot, which one is cold, which is the biggest. He knows about the Space Station, asteroids, meteorites, astronauts...you get the point. So it wasn't hard to accept his wish for a Rocket Ship party. Done. We kept it pretty small because Anderson does much better in smaller groups with just his close friends, and I couldn't make that many space helmets. So I let him invite who he wanted, as long is it didn't exceed 10 ;)
It pretty much was the cutest little space party I ever did see. But that's probably because it was my first party and I have nothing to compare it to. Even thought the decos and food presentation were lacking, I think the 3 years old approved.
I love seeing Anderson and his buddy wrestling in the corner. He is becoming more and more aggressive...in the sweetest way possible of course
They went hunting for moon rocks...
Had to go through obstacles and tests to make it to the rocket and become a real astronaut
And finally they were crowned. Handmade astronaut helmets with their names on the back and everything. I may have spent far too much time on them, but hey they get to keep them forever...or at least a week until they get destroyed. Sterling has already attempted multiple times.
One of the highlights for Anders was all the planets hanging from the trees. He seriously loves them and we will probably eventually just move them to hang in his room.
Serious Astronaut buddies
I attempted to keep the food up with the "rocket" theme. Fruit rockets...
And hot dog rockets. Even though the intent was to add a cheese triangle to the top to make it look more rocket esque...but you know...when kids are hungry you give them what they want asap
This was the first time Anderson has gotten so many presents from friends. He was in heaven and the kiddos were so adorable. Loving giving their gift and helping him open it. Seriously such great friends. And the card opening and reading just about killed me. So precious.
The "Moon" cake was my highlight. I think it turned out pretty great. I just baked a cake in a pyrex bowl, flipped it out and frosted the top. My friend made me perfect grey fondant so I cut out some circles to make them look like craters. I kinda love it.
Can't forget the stickiest rocket pops. It went with the theme.
Anderson we love you so much. You have such a sweet and kind hearted personality. You are always complimenting me and you sure know how to sweet talk. You are so in tune with others' feelings and always know how to make me smile if something is wrong. You are way too smart for your own good, or maybe for my own good. You learn so quickly. You are into so many things and remember them all. Space, dinos, cars, trains, the human body. That's one of the favorites. All the functions of every organ and cell in your body. Really. You're clever. You are such an amazing big brother and I love watching you grow and become more confident in yourself when you try new things and are around your friends. You cannot wait to start Joyschool in a few weeks. You never stop talking or asking questions or telling me about your thoughts. We are similar in that way and I love it so much. You still love cuddles and sleeping on the floor next to our bed but once you see that 7 on the clock you are whispering in my ear "mom! Its 7. Look at the clock. Its morning!". But the days when you kiss me and say "you rest 5 more minutes, i'll go watch a show" just melt my heart. I could say so much more, and I probably will in a future post, but just know that you are the one that made me a mother and gave me the greatest gift. You are my best little buddy. We will love you forever. So grateful your kind sweet spirit is in our family. So excited to see what your 4th year will bring!
